Community – Friday

Today we will pray for local outreach opportunities. Our partnership with Woodrow Wilson, Hope House, and other local ministries helping the people of Westminster.

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” Proverbs 3:27 NIV

Pray for the unconverted.

Jesus, Lover of souls, Shepherd of all who stray and make mistakes, you do not desire that any should perish but that all people might be saved from sin and come to a knowledge of the truth. I come to you on behalf of my friends who still live without hope in this world and who have closed their hearts and lives to your gracious invitation. Grant that they may come and find rest and peace for their souls. Give me the grace to use every opportunity by word and conduct to bear witness to you and your love. May my decisions and interests show my associates that I put you first in my life and thought. May my behavior at all times reveal your gracious presence in me. Make me thoughtful, considerate, helpful and patient in their presence. Open the eyes of my family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to see the wonders of your love, the blessedness of belonging to You, and the joy and satisfaction that service rendered to You gives each day. Abide with me, and bless each effort of mine to win souls for you, most honorable Savior and Friend. Amen.

Pray for a specific person/neighbor you desire to witness to.

Lord God, who gives all things, I thank you for the spiritual and earthly blessings that have come to me from your gracious hand. Help me put you first in all things, to seek your glory, and to love and serve my neighbor as myself. At this time I pray for a courageous and wise heart that I may share Your love with ____________________, who is little interested in the needs of the spirit and his (her) own salvation. Give me the words to speak, and send your Holy Spirit into his (her) heart that he (she) may listen and believe. I feel inadequate for the privilege of sharing the Gospel, but I know that through you I will be able to do all things. Help me to take courage from the example of the apostles, who relied on your promise as given in Matthew 10: “For what you are to say will be given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” I depend on you. Lend power and conviction to my halting words, that _______________ may find eternal life and the joy of salvation in you, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Pray for Opportunities for Kingdom Service.

Dear Father in heaven, I thank you that you have made me a child of yours and have allowed me to help build your kingdom. Every day I pray, “Thy kingdom come.” With all my heart I want your kingdom to come, and I want to do my part that it may come. Show me how I may proclaim Your Name and how I may speak of your glorious majesty and your wonderful works. Open a way of service for me in my congregation. Give me work in which I can serve you best. If it please you, move those who are entrusted with the administration of the congregation to seek my service, or give me courage to go. Lord, give me the power to witness for you at home, in my work, on my vacations, or wherever I may be so that those with whom I live and work may know the love I have for you. Increase the clarity of my witness for the transformation of unbelievers and for the strengthening of believers. Hear me in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Community – Thursday

Today we will pray for our local government, schools, police, fire, and first responders.

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” Romans 13:1 NIV

Pray and give thanks to the Lord for those who often put their lives on the line for others.

“Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”  Peter 4:11

“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you” Colossians 1:3

Father, we are so blessed to have men and women who work diligently for our safety and well-being, even when their jobs are difficult and often thankless. Help us remember to thank you for their sacrifices and service to our community. Through their service to us through government positions, teaching our young people, or working in dangerous positions, let us not overlook their gifts. May we touch heaven with prayers of gratitude whenever we see or personally encounter first responders. Give them the strength that only you can provide so that as they serve, you will be honored.

Pray for spiritual salvation and a faith in Christ to sustain them.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. “1 Timothy 2:1–4

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalm 27:1

Lord Jesus, we pray for public servants everywhere who have not yet made you their Lord and Savior. Please put your people in their paths, so that they might learn to seek you first and honor you. It’s so important to have godly men and women in these positions of influence for the sake of Your Kingdom. We also pray that you will intervene in the lives of those who once knew you well but have fallen away from you due to the pressures of their jobs. Reignite their hearts with passion for all that you are, Lord Jesus! Stir people all over our nation to pray fervently that our public servants will be salt and light in dark places and beacons of hope to the hopeless. Help them to minister in very difficult occupations so that they might be agents of change for the sake of your name!

Pray for their protection and safety because many are in situations of significant danger.

“No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:1–4

“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91: 14–16

Gracious God, public servants have such dangerous jobs! Help them to dwell in your shadow. May you always be their refuge in difficult situations. May they trust in you completely, moment by moment. Show them your power when they find themselves in unsafe situations or when they face people who threaten to harm them. Keep them safe for the glory of your name!

Community – Wednesday

Today pray for the New Downtown Westminster and our neighborhoods to the North and South of the Church.

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:7 NIV

“And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?” Jonah 4:11 NIV

Pray that the Lord of the harvest would send forth laborers.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:36-39

Pray that we would have boldness and clarity in sharing the Gospel.

“praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” Ephesians 6:18-20

“that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak” Colossians 4:4

Pray that doors would open.

“I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf, 31 that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, 32 so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company.” Romans 15:30-32

“At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison” Colossians 4:3

“Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith.” 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2

Pray that God’s protection would be upon us as we spread the message of the Gospel

“Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3

Father, We pray for the neighborhoods that are surrounding us. We pray for the new downtown Westminster and all the people who will be moving to this area. We pray that Novation will be a safe place for them to come and hear from you. For the neighborhoods to the North and South of the church, we pray that you will help Novation be a lighthouse to these neighborhoods. We pray for opportunities to open up and share the gospel, for Novation to reach this community with your love. Help us be a church where people can come and experience your love, grace, mercy and community.

Community – Tuesday

Today we will pray for our Pastors, Board Members, and Ministry Leaders

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior.” 1 Timothy 2:1-3 NIV

Pray they will keep their eyes on God.

King Jehoshaphat faced three combined enemy armies, and he did not know what to do – except to lock his eyes on God. That’s the answer any time we have no clue about next steps.

“For we are powerless before this vast number that comes to fight against us. We do not know what to do, but we look to You.” 2 Chronicles. 20:12, HCSB

Pray they will not take a step apart from God’s leading.

Moses prayed this prayer when God would send only an angel to lead His people after their fiasco with the golden calf. He would rather the people not start the journey if God Himself were not leading them.

“If Your presence does not go,” Moses responded to Him, “don’t make us go up from here.” Exodus 33:15

Pray they will beware of relying on their own strength.

David, who knew the Lord is the one who fights for him (1 Sam. 17:47), trusted in his own might when he took a census of the Hebrew armies. Recognizing his sin, he prayed a prayer most leaders need to pray at some point:

“I have sinned greatly in what I’ve done. Now, Lord, because I’ve been very foolish, please take away Your servant’s guilt.” 2 Samuel 24:10

Pray they will be wise in leading God’s people.

When Solomon might have asked for much more, he instead asked God to give him a “listening heart” as he governed the people of God. All of us who lead congregations need this wisdom.

“So give your servant an obedient heart to judge your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 3:9

Father, We pray for Pastor Scott, Pastor Marc and Pastor Brian. Help them to keep their eyes on you and stay dependent on you as they lead us. We thank you for all of their sacrifice and service to help us grow and become more like you. Give them renewed vision and passion and remind them of their calling. I pray that they can continue to depend on others to link arms with and not do ministry alone. Help them continue to serve us well.

We pray for the board of directors. Continue to give them clarity and wisdom as they help to lead the church. Help them to challenge each other and the pastoral team toward excellence. Continue to give them wisdom as their role has become more defined. Help them to love our church with correction when needed. Help them to serve our church with love and guidance.

We pray for the ministry leaders. Our pillars of what you have called us to do in Sunday morning experience, connections, home groups, spiritual growth, outreach, and prayer and care. Please make each leader of these different ministry areas aware of your presence. Let them lead connected to you, listening to all that you would have them help lead in the church. Bring clarity and wisdom to what the most important areas are for us to focus on as a church.

Community – Monday

Today we will pray for the members of our church. Pray for deeper relationships through core groups, home groups, connection events and spiritual growth events.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV

“Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.” 1 Peter 2:17 NIV

Read Ephesians 4:1-3 and then pray for unity as a church body.

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,  with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,  eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3

God, help our church body to walk in a manner worthy of the calling you have given us. Help us in all our interactions with one another to have humble and gentle hearts. Grant us patience for one another, bearing with one another in love. Grant the body of Christ unity. May we walk humbly with you, God, allowing you to show us our wrongs.

Read 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 then pray that we would seek the Lord.

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15

Lord, you have told us in your Word that you hear our prayers. We are crying out to you. We are humbling ourselves before you and seeking your face. We come together as a church body to seek you. We repent and turn from our wicked ways. Thank you for hearing us. Thank you for your forgiveness and healing.

Read Romans 14:19 then pray that we would pursue peace.

So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.” Romans 14:19

Father God, You desire peace and unity and encouragement for our body of believers. Help us, Lord, to pursue what makes for peace and for building one another up. To pursue the things of you will lead to peace and unity. Give us discerning hearts to know your will and give us the courage to be obedient. Lord, we know that without you and your Holy Spirit indwelling each of us, we cannot do any of these things. But, with you and for your glory, grant our church body peace and unity.

Read Luke 9:23-24 and then pray that we would follow Jesus.

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” Luke 9:23-24

Lord, you have given us what seems like an impossible task with this passage. You have asked us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow you. Even when our spirits are willing, the flesh is weak. You know our hearts, Father. Help us, with your Holy Spirit, to examine our hearts and hear from you. The longer we walk with you, the more we look like you. We desire to become more and more like you, less selfish and more selfless, willing to deny ourselves in any and all situations. You have told us that when we lose our life for your sake, we will save it. Save us from ourselves, God.

When God Says No

“Call to Me and I will answer you . . .”   Jeremiah 33:3 NIV

One Of The Many Reasons God Says ‘No’:

  1. God says ‘no’ when he has a bigger perspective

“He knows about everyone everywhere. Everything about us is bare and wide open to the all-seeing eyes of our living God; nothing can be hidden from Him . . .” Hebrews 4:13 LB

“(God) guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones.”  Proverbs. 2:8 NIV

  1. God says ‘no’ when he has a better plan

“This plan of mine is not what you would work out, neither are My thoughts the same as yours! For My ways are higher than yours.”  Isaiah 55:8-9 LB

“These were commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better. . .” Hebrews 11:39-40 NIV

  • God has all of eternity to fulfill His Promises

  1. God says ‘no’ when he has a greater purpose

“The purpose of these troubles is to test your faith as fire tests how genuine gold is. Your faith is more precious than gold.” 1 Peter 1:7 GW

“These present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they will produce in us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever!  So, we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NLT

“Just as you’ll never understand how the mystery of life forms in a pregnant woman, so you’ll never understand the mystery at work in all that God does.” Ecclesiastes 11:5 MSG

What Should I Do When God Says ‘No’?

  1. Trust that god does everything out of his goodness and love

“All the ways of the Lord are loving . . .”  Psalm 25:10 NIV

“In everything God works for the good of those who love Him.” Romans 8:28 ICB

  • I don’t have to understand God’s answer to know that it is motivated by love

  1. When in pain, pray what Jesus prayed facing the cross

“Abba! My Father! All things are possible for you! Please take this cup of suffering away from me! Yet I want your will, not mine, to be done!” Mark 14:35-36

The Right Way to Pray:

  • Affirm God’s power

“Father, I know you can do anything!”

  • Ask with passion

“Father, please give me what I ask!”

  • Accept God’s plan

“However, what I want most is your will!”

  1. Expect god to give his grace to handle his answer

“Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away. But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” So, I gladly boast about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power can flow through me! . . . For when I am weak, then I am strong!”  2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Global Missions – Friday

India

About 75% of the people in India Hindu. That’s approximately 902 million people.  Operation World provides the following information regarding the church in India “The life and health of the Church depend on the proper development of pastors, teachers, evangelists and missionaries. In churches, poor discipling and lack of teaching and modelling of biblical life and leadership are problems. India’s strong philosophical tradition and religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity make adequate training crucial, but most workers are sent out with very little specific preparation for their ministry context. There are over 100,000 full-time workers in India; about half are pastoring local churches. There is, on average, one trained pastor for every six congregations.”

  • Pray for Pastor James with Joshua Nations as he brings the gospel to unreached Hindu’s in northern India. He is witnessing many people come to Christ through the teaching and training of pastors with the Joshua Nations curriculum.
  • Pray for strength and health for Pastor James to endure the harsh conditions in which he is ministering.
  • Pray for Gospel to spread across India.
  • Pray that God will raise up leaders in His Church in order to make disciples throughout India.

Global Missions – Thursday

Syria

There was a time in the not so distant past when Syrian Christian minorities enjoyed freedom and stability, possibly unparalleled throughout the Middle East. The Orthodox and Catholic churches have existed here even pior to Islam and they endure still today and are filled with many godly members. The majority in Syria is Arab, but there is also a large Armenian community. Christians are concentrated in the cities, but finding housing and employment is increasingly challenging due to discrimination. Their proportion steadily declines through continual emigration.

  • Pray for our brothers and sisters in Syria facing discrimination and persecution.
  • Pray that ISIS would be driven out.
  • Pray for the Christian leaders and thank God for the longstanding presence and the wise leadership of the Christian communities, and pray that these communities might bloom and grow again.
  • Pray for renewal and revival in these ancient traditions.

Global Missions – Wednesday

DR Congo

  • Pray for the people in Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Cholera threatens Congo’s capital as hundreds die from lack of treatment. The disease has killed over 1190 people since July.
  • Pray for peace in the Congo. President Joseph Kabila was supposed to step down at the end of his term in 2016. By clinging on to power and refusing to allow elections he threw the Democratic Republic of Congo into a vicious cycle of deadly conflict. There are frequent, violent, and deadly riots throughout the country.
  • Pray for the peacekeepers, as rebels attacked a United Nations peacekeeping base in eastern Congo, killing at least 14 and wounding 53 others in the deadliest single assault on a U.N. mission in recent history.

Becky is a missionary who runs a boys’ home in Congo.  She shares the following regarding her prayer needs:

“Many have a head knowledge but not a heart knowledge of the Gospel. Folks are into so much occult stuff it’s scary. Pray these people will know the true Christ. Poverty is widespread and there is such a huge gap between the poor and the rich.  There is so little love for each other in this country. Most of the rich people and the folks in leadership have sent their own families outside of the country. Corruption is expected and accepted as the norm. Pray for a revival here!  Please pray for the boys’ home. Pray God will lead us to five new little guys we can take into the home. There are desperate kids out there and we are praying God will lead us to them. Pray for the three kids that came to the center two years ago.  The man who brought them got out of jail and is causing problems again. There is no justice in this country and everyone is trying to get something.  Pray God will protect us from this evil man, and that we do not grow weary”.

Global Missions – Tuesday

Dominican Republic

  • Pray for our missionary partner Kiko Alvarez, his wife Kelly, and their two daughters Emily and Kimberly. Kiko’s schedule can be very demanding and require long trips away from his wife and daughters. Kiko’s father, whom he was close to, recently passed away. This has been a tough loss for the entire family. Pray that the Lord will continue to guide him and give him the words to speak into the lives of the people of the Dominican Republic and that he will continue to lead American teams to where God calls them.
  • Pray for La Balsa, the sugar cane village Novation returns to every year. There is a strong presence of the occult and the people are tempted to combine the practice of voodoo with a twisted form of Christianity. Pray that the adults and children in the village will unashamedly give their lives over to Christ. Pray for leaders amongst the adults and teens to arise and encourage others to follow Christ. Pray for the leaders of the church. Pastor Alejandro and his wife Kenia just had a baby girl and are in constant need of food and supplies. Pray for strength for Alejandro to fight the good fight and keep loving and serving the people of La Bolsa. Pray that their good example will lead many to Jesus (and only Jesus) and that the church would grow to include the entire community of about 120 families.
