“I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, that he may hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted.” Psalm 77:1-2 NRSV

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:11 NIV

How To Deal With How You Feel

  • Identify the source of your feelings

“Why, my soul, are you downcast?”

  1.  Is it circumstantial?

B. Is it spiritual?

C. Is it physical?

  • Hold on to the lifeline of hope

“Put your hope in God…”

What is hope? Hope is the confident expectation of God’s faithfulness. Hope keeps our perspective straight.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

“However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NIV

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NIV

  • Process your feelings by talking them through

Why so disturbed within me?

  1.  Talk to Jesus and listen to Him

“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5 NIV

B. Talk to a trusted friend

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16 KJV

C. Talk to yourself

“Christians spend to much time listening to themselves, when they should spend more time talking to themselves.” Martin Lloyd-Jones

  • Set your mind and heart on things above

“Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:1-3 NASB

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” Revelation 2:1-4 NASB
