Why Is It Important to Renew My Mind?

  • My thoughts control my actions

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” Proverbs 23:7 NKJV

  • My mind is the battle ground for sin

“I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. “ Romans 7:21-23 NLT

  • My thoughts determine my peace and joy

“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”  Romans 8:6 NLT 

How Do I Renew My Mind?

  1. I need to fill my mind with God’s word.

“People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 NLT

2. I need to free my mind from destructive thoughts.

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NIV

3. I need to focus on the right things.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 NIV 

  • Think about Jesus.

“Keep your mind on Jesus Christ! He was from the family of David and was raised from death, just as my good news says.” 2 Timothy 2:8 CEV

  • Think of others first.

“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:4 NLT

  • Think about eternity.

“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” Colossians 3:2 NLT
