“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1 NIV

  • A heart that is renewed and being renewed looks like Jesus’ heart

How To Develop A Heart Like Jesus:

  1. I need to care about what Jesus cares about.

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV

  • He loves & cares about this world. (John 3:16)

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36 NIV

  • He loves His Church. (Ephesians 5:25)

“… I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not be able to defeat it.”  Matthew 16:18 NLT

2. I need to be indifferent about what He is indifferent to.

“My kingdom is not of this world…” John 18:36 NIV

  • He was indifferent to impressing others. (John 5:41)
  • He was indifferent to getting rich. (Luke 12:15)

3. I need to get angry over the same things that He is angry over.

“Be angry without sin” Ephesians 4:26

  • Jesus gets angry when the needs of children go unmet.

“People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:13-14 NIV

  • Jesus gets angry when the suffering of others is overlooked.

“And the word of the Lord came again to Zechariah: “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.  Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.” Zechariah 7:8-10 NIV

4. I need to sacrifice for what Jesus sacrificed

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 NIV

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” Mark 8:35 NLT
