Pastor Scott Applegate
“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.” Hebrews 11:24-27 NIV
How can we learn to be extraordinary from the life of Moses?
1. Moses exercised courage
“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.”
- It took courage to overcome the experiences of his past
- It took courage to walk with integrity
2. Moses accepted responsibility
“He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.”
- It took humility to overcome the disappointments of life
- I need to stop blaming others for where I am at in life
- I need to realize I am going to give an account of my life to God
(Romans 14:12)
3. Moses had the right priorities
“He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.”
- It took perseverance to overcome the pressure of the present
The World’s Priorities:
- Popularity (Vs 24)
- Pleasure (Vs 25)
- Possessions (Vs 26)
Kingdom Priorities:
- God’s glory
- God’s purposes
- Our joy
4. Moses knew where he was going, and Who he was following
“By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.”
- It took faith and vision to overcome the uncertainties of the future
- Vision is a picture of the future that produces passion in us today
- Our faith and vision is strengthened by knowing the One who holds our future
