“Love keeps no record of wrongs…” 1 Corinthians 13:5

“Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” Matthew 6:12 NLT

THREE THINGS THAT CHALLENGE US TO FORGIVE OTHERS

  • What people say about us
  • What people think about us
  • What people do to us

Matthew 18:21-35 NLT

WHEN FORGIVING OTHERS IS HARD, I NEED TO:

1. Remember how much I have been forgiven

  • Forgiven people forgive people

“Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32 NLT

  • To refuse to forgive is to deny the power of the cross

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15 NLT

2. Remember God is the judge, not me

“And the heavens declare His righteousness, for God Himself is judge.” Psalm 50:6 NASB

3. Remember that love demands forgiveness

“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.” 1 John 4:10-11 NLT

“Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 NLT

HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE FORGIVEN SOMEONE? (Luke 6:27-36)

  • When I no longer want revenge
  • When I do not bring up the offense anymore
  • When I can pray for that person
