“Now all this took place so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:“Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they shall name Him Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:22-23 NASB

How is Jesus “God with us”?

  • God with us means that He was God before the manger

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of mankind. And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not grasp it.” John 1:1-5 NASB

  • God with us means we can know what God is like

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 NASB

“No one has seen God at any time; God the only Son, who is in the arms of the Father, He has explained Him.” John 1:18 NASB

  • God with us means we receive the best gifts

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.” John 1:12-13 NASB

Light

“This was the true Light that, coming into the world, enlightens every person.” John 1:9 NASB

“I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12 NASB

Grace

“For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” John 1:16-17 NASB

Hope

“…Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 NASB

Peace

“Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.” John 14:27 NASB

Joy

“These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.” John 15:11 NASB
