“…I will build My Church…” Jesus (Matthew 16:18)

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body…” 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 ESV

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:15-20 NIV

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

  • Novation Church exists to make and grow devoted followers of Jesus

FOUR COMMITMENTS OF A DEVOTED FOLLOWER OF JESUS

A Commitment to:

  1. Jesus and the local church (Membership)
  2. Personal spiritual growth (Maturity)
  3. Finding and using my spiritual gifts (Ministry)
  4. Lifestyle evangelism (Mission)
  • At Novation Church we strive to be a modern expression of the early church

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47 NIV

FOUR MARKS OF THE EARLY CHURCH

  1. Devotion
  2. Community
  3. Consistency
  4. Influence , impact and increase

What is a disciple? A disciple of Jesus is someone who has trusted in Him as Savior and is following Him as Lord

“God has made this Jesus…both Lord and Messiah (Savior).” Acts 2:36 NIV

HOW DO I TRUST HIM AS SAVIOR?

  • I admit that He has not been first place in my life and ask Him for forgiveness

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”  1 John 1:9 NIV
  • I believe and trust that Jesus died and paid for my sins and that He rose again and is alive today“If you declarewith your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 NIV
  • I receive God’s gift of salvation“For it is by graceyou have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God—not by works,
so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV

HOW DO I FOLLOW HIM AS LORD?

  • I allow Him to become the Director , Teacher and Boss of my life“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and
take up their cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 NIV
  • I demonstrate my commitment in water baptism
  • Jesus modeled it (Mark 1:9)
  • Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:19)
  • Baptism illustrates the death and resurrection of Christ and my new life in Him
    (1 Corinthians 15:4, Romans 6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • I commit to growing in obedience to His commands (John 14:15) and growing in Christ-like character and maturity (Romans 8:29, Galatians 5:22-23)
  • I commit myself to loving and caring for others (John 13:34-35), allowing others to care for me (Galatians 6:2) and by giving of my time, talent, and treasure to my local church

Heavenly Father: I come before you this day and admit that You have not been first place in my life. I have tried to be my own lord and my own savior. I recognize today that You created me for Your purpose and I admit I have tried to be my own purpose. I am a sinner in need of a savior. Jesus I believe You died and rose again to bring me back into a relationship with the Father. Today I receive the gift of salvation and eternal life by faith alone. In Your name, Amen.

Today I am affirming and committing that I want to be devoted follower of Jesus and that I will be devoted and committed to this local church.
