Gluttony – Over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items such that it dulls us from those in need and distracts us from God

Defending Against Gluttony

  1. Gluttony feeds off of discontentment

Defense: Pursue contentment by practicingself-control

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Gal 5:22-23

“You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV

“Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony” Proverbs 23:2

  • Gluttony feeds off of self-indulgence

Defense: Take the focus off of yourself by practicing charitable behavior

“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.” Ezekiel 16:49 NIV
