What did Hannah do With Her Pain?

What did Hannah NOT do With Her Pain?

Some Primary Types of Pain:

  • Physical
  • Spiritual
  • Emotional
  • Mental
  • Relational

Pain is Part of Life

(2 Corinthians 1:3-11, 1 Peter 4:12-13, 1 Peter 5:9-10, 2 Corinthians 7:8-11, Romans 8:18)

  • Hannah chose honor God in the middle of painand after the pain was removed

Two Plans for Pain in Our Life:

  1. Know what to do when we are in pain

“I am not a theologian or a scholar, but I am very aware of the fact that pain is necessary to all of us. In my own life, I think I can honestly say that out of the deepest pain has come the strongest conviction of the presence of God and the love of God.” Elisabeth Elliot

  1. Know what to do when we know someone in pain

“Caring for someone in pain can be like trying to hug a porcupine. Grieving people are prickly, even on a good day.” Gaye Clark

“When pain is to be born, a little courage helps more than much knowledge, a little human sympathy more than much courage, and the least tincture of the love of God more than all.” C.S. Lewis

  • Jesus can relate to our pain

Isaiah 53:3

“Jesus lost all his glory so that we could be clothed in it. He was shut out, so we could get access. He was bound, nailed, so that we could be free. He was cast out so we could approach. And Jesus took away the only kind of suffering that can really destroy you: that is being cast away from God. He took that so that now all suffering that comes into your life will only make you great. A lump of coal under pressure becomes a diamond. And the suffering of a person in Christ only turns you into somebody gorgeous.” Tim Keller
