Sometimes the world we live in can feel like a scary place. We look around and see chaos, division, heartbreak, and fear. It can be difficult to navigate our way through it and to see clearly in the midst of so much confusion. But God’s word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path (psalm 119:105). He has given us all we need to navigate the difficulties and confusion and to keep from succumbing to the wicked or giving up under the weight of insults or mockery from those around us.
In this stanza, the psalmist leans on God’s word, His promise, His laws, His decrees, and His precepts. He trusts that these things will keep him from losing his footing and giving into the confusion and the evil that surrounds him. His hope is placed firmly in that which cannot be taken from him. He focuses his heart and mind on the truth of who God is and on His Word and he makes obedience to God his practice.
