Why is Gratitude Essential to a Full Life?

  • Gratitude honors God

“…giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.” Psalm 50:3 NLT

 

  • Gratitude strengthens relationships

“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT

 

  • Gratitude deepens faith

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:17-19 NIV

 

  • Gratitude serves others

How to Develop a Heart of Gratitude:

  • Make singing and speaking the gospel a daily practice

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:15-17 NIV

 

  • Count your blessings everyday

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits…” Psalm 103:2 NIV

 

  • Remind yourself that God always treats us better than we deserve

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” Psalm 103:8-10 NIV

  • Learn the art of contentment
